Nexceris ties up $60m deal to scale SOEC technology

Nexceris has finalised its $60m deal with the US Department of Energy (DOE) designed to scale up its electrolysis stack technology.

The Ohio-based firm offers solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) and fuel cell (SOFC) stack technology for power generation and reversible operation for grid support applications.

The $60m comes as part of the DOE’s $750m funding programme for 52 projects across 24 states. Nexceris submitted a project under the topic ‘Low-cost, High-Throughput Electrolyser Manufacturing.’

H2 View understands the project will develop automated SOEC stack manufacturing processes to increase throughput and reduce costs.

It will developed alongside Current Chemicals, the University of Connecticut, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Strategic Analysis, Idaho National Laboratory, Clark Atlanta University, and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

“The goal of this project is to increase our manufacturing capacity 10-fold and reduce our production costs,” explained Geoff Merchant, Director of the Nexceris Electrolysis Business.

“Our technology provides a significant efficiency improvement when compared with incumbent technologies. This funding will allow us to provide stacks to this growing market.

“This is a huge opportunity for Nexceris. It can potentially grow and transform our organisation while positively impacting the US energy landscape.”
