Matmut and Inocel partner to install hydrogen generator at Rouen HQ

Matmut Group and Inocel will install a hydrogen generator at the insurance firm’s headquarters in Rouen, France, as part of the organisation’s 2024-2026 objectives.

The French company wants to commit to cleaner energy as part of its ‘Objective: Impact!’ Strategy.

However, Matmut is not only installing the hydrogen generator as part of its decarbonisation strategy but is also actively supporting fuel cell supplier Inocel’s development.

Beyond investment, Matmut employees will join Inocel’s working groups to share expertise, helping the company better understand regulatory and technical challenges and improve its hydrogen generator solutions.

Nicolas Gomart, Vice-President and CEO of Matmut Group, claimed the firm will always be connected to key players “in the real economy,” including startups, micro-enterprises and SMEs.

Gomart added, “Energy sovereignty, both for France and Europe, particularly in terms of energy autonomy, is also a key concern. Hydrogen fuel cells represent a promising and sustainable solution, and we want to support the expansion of this technology in any way we can.”

Earlier this year, Inocel announced it would provide fuel cell for hydrogen generation equipment under an agreement with Equans. Together, the two companies plan to provide hydrogen energy storage and generation solutions, ranging from 300kW to several megawatts.

Jules Billiet, CEO of Inocel, commented on the partnership with Matmut. “Through this project, we are demonstrating that Inocel hydrogen generators offer decarbonised energy solutions perfectly suited to businesses seeking reliable and high-performance options amid the energy transition.”

Last week, French hydrogen producer Lhyfe inked a four-year offtake agreement to supply a total of 140 tonnes of green hydrogen to Inocel for its test benches.
