ITM Power has confirmed that it will supply 8MW of its PEM electrolysers to phase one of EDF Renewables UK and Hynamics’ Tees Green Hydrogen project.
The UK-based electrolyser manufacturer revealed today (March 27) that a capacity reservation made in July 2024 for four of its 2MW Neptune units was linked to the Teesside-based development.
ITM has now been selected to deliver a plant integration engineering package for the project in Northeast England.
Tees Green Hydrogen plans to launch with a capacity of 7.5MW by 2026 and could scale up to 300MW. Hydrogen produced by the project is expected to supply local industrial and transport applications.
Responding to a query from H2 View about the 8MW order compared to the project’s 7.5MW launch capacity, ITM clarified that the 2MW Neptune platform uses the company’s 2MW Trident stack system – explaining the 8MW configuration.
ITM CEO Dennis Schulz said it was a “privilege” to be selected by EDF and Hynamics.
However, the Teesside-based project is yet to reach final investment decision (FID) due to delays in finalising government funding, despite EDF’s intention to begin work on the site this year.
Tees Green Hydrogen was shortlisted for subsidies under the UK Government’s first hydrogen allocation round (HAR1), which could provide a strike price of £241/MWh ($307/MWh) – equivalent to just over £9/kg ($11.48/kg) of hydrogen – for 5.4MW of the project.
In December, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) said that just three of the 11 HAR1 projects had signed funding agreements, with Tees Green Hydrogen not included.
