Hyting’s hydrogen heating generator secures certification for European markets

Hydrogen heating company Hyting has had its product approved for use in the European market.

Certified under the Gas Appliance Regulation (GAR), the German firm’s 10kW heat generator underwent testing by Kiwa, an independent testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) company.

Tim Hannig, Founder and Managing Director of Hyting said the certification demonstrates to its customers and investors that the technology “is not only safe, but also market-ready.”

He added, “We chose Kiwa to carry out the certification because it is a trusted partner within the heating sector and has a proven reputation for technical excellence.”

Hyting claims its 10-50kW units offer efficient and clean forced-air heating fuelled by hydrogen, with no CO2, NOx or particulate matter emissions.

Prototypes are currently undergoing testing, with the first customer trials expected in Germany this quarter.

However, a recent report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) recommended hydrogen producers who plan on relying on home heating as a market to “think again.”

“The future for hydrogen blending with natural gas for home heating and cooking is not bright, as the purported benefits are far from impressive and fail to stack up against the risks,” the report warned.
