Hydrogen UK names 2025 award winners

Air Products, Centrica, Oort Energy, EasyJet, Intelligent Energy, GeoPura and more have been named winners at the Hydrogen UK 2025 Awards.

The trade association’s annual awards announced the 10 winners at the National Conference Centre (NCC) in Birmingham, to highlight the achievements and innovations of individuals and organisations across the hydrogen sector.

Awards were given out for work in finance and investment, industrial applications, transportation and innovation, as well as awards for individual people making efforts.

Acknowledging the challenges felt across the hydrogen sector in recent years, Jane Toogood, Co-Chair of the UK Hydrogen Delivery Council, praised the efforts of the people working throughout the sector.

“The key to success is much more than resilience and agility,” she said. “It’s about the people and the skilled teams who are working hard to make this possible. And the way it’s done is from the bold, brave and exciting steps that you are taking to shape and scale a more sustainable future for the next generations.”

In a ceremony hosted by TV and radio’s Veron Kay, the winners of this year’s awards were revealed as:

  • Hydrogen Person of the Year: Qamar Khan, Clean Power Hydrogen (CPH2), for their contribution to the hydrogen sector and STEM community projects over the last five years.
  • Future Hydrogen Leader (sponsored by Honeywell): Megan Backhouse, BOC UK & Ireland, for her leadership and pioneering work in advancing hydrogen fuel switching and safety in the UK’s industrial sectors.

  • Innovation Project, (sponsored by Commercial Fuel Solutions): Oort Energy for the successful operation of its 250kW PEM electrolyser, powered entirely by solar energy, in Harlaxton, UK.
  • Hydrogen for Transport: easyJet and its Project Acorn which was the first hydrogen refuelling trial to take place at a major UK airport – one that is helping establish the first industry regulation for hydrogen’s use in an airside environment.
  • Infrastructure Project: Wefco for the design, fabrication, testing, and delivery of the six largest green hydrogen vessels in the UK, each with a capacity of over 260m³ and capable of storing more than 750kg of hydrogen.
  • Industrial Application (sponsored by Withers & Rogers LLP): Intelligent Energy for developing the world’s first hydrogen-powered mobile elevating work platforms.
