Element 1 Corp has secured a five-year, multi-unit purchase order worth $5.3m to distribute its methanol-to-hydrogen generators throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and the UK.
Agreed with a “major North American partner,” Element 1 has granted exclusive L18-PSA generator distribution rights to the buyer within these countries.
Element 1 will manufacture the units at its Bend, Oregon, facility in the US. As a derivative of its standard L18 high-purity hydrogen generator, the L18-PSA system is a portable unit that produces low-purity hydrogen from methanol and water and is designed to be coupled with a third-party PSA unit.
CEO Dave Edlund stated that the company’s technology addresses both the cost and supply security challenges of hydrogen, often delivering payback within months – a key factor in accelerating the adoption of fuel cells and hydrogen combustion engines.
“This order is further validation of our unique product offerings,” the CEO added.
While not yet in widespread use, methanol-to-hydrogen generation units are gaining attention as a solution for one-site and distributed hydrogen production.
However, unless green methanol is used, the unit still emits carbon and produces low-purity hydrogen, which must be further purified via a PSA for use in applications like fuel cells.
