Purus Marine will support Climate Impact Corporation (CIC) in developing a Net Zero shipping pathway for its renewable hydrogen portfolio.
The Singapore and Hong Kong-headquartered marine company, which operates one of the world’s largest vessel fleets, will ship green hydrogen from CIC’s Australian initiatives.
On its website, Purus Marine claimed it’s at the “forefront of decarbonising the maritime sector, deploying a range of technologies such as clean fuels, energy-saving devices, electrification and carbon capture systems.”
CIC co-founder, David Green claimed the agreement with Purus Marine is critical in creating a hydrogen product “that truly met the ambitions of energy and derivatives customers.”
Green added, “Demand for renewable hydrogen is powered by a desire for zero-carbon fuels, but traditional products by other producers don’t measure transport emissions when claiming to produce a truly green hydrogen product.
“Every decision we’ve made in building our modules and securing a supply chain at scale is designed to achieve a $2/kg price for our renewable hydrogen.
“Purus’ innovation in sustainable shipping, adopted alongside these technologies, allows us to maintain this focus without sacrificing affordability.”
CIC has already secured enough demand for its two 10GW hydrogen projects located in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
CIC advocates for an off-grid solar power approach to avoid Australian grid charges, which can account for 20-25% of delivered costs, according to Green.
Previously speaking to H2 View, the co-founder said, “Given that electricity is the primary cost driver, every aspect of a project must be optimised for efficiency. In Australia, rising electricity prices were predictable. Some years have seen a 50% increase in electricity costs.”
