Lhyfe to develop 10MW green hydrogen plant in Sweden

Lhyfe has received a grant of up to SEK 125.6m ($11.9m) to develop a local renewable hydrogen production project in Trelleborg, Sweden.

Awarded under investment programme Klimatklivet, supported by the Swedish Environment Protection Agency, the plant will be capable of producing up to four tonnes per day of hydrogen based on a 10MW installed electrolysis capacity.

The grant will fund the development and design phases, the supply of equipment and the construction work, representing around 40% of the total estimated investment in the project.

The first kilos of green hydrogen are expected to be produced in 2027, subject to the granting of operating authorisations and construction permits, along with financial investment decisions (FID).

This is the first project that Lhyfe has been granted subsidies for in Sweden, a recognition of the production and delivery of green hydrogen to customers over the past two years, according to Sara Wihlborg, Country Manager Sweden at Lhyfe.

Wihlborg added, “It is also proof of us going in the right direction in Sweden, and we would like to reiterate our commitment to the Swedish environmental agenda and welcome the fact that Sweden is focusing on the rapid expansion of a hydrogen infrastructure based on renewable energies.

“It will support our objective to increase the penetration of green hydrogen throughout Sweden both for mobility and industry.”

Lhyfe also announced plans to build its first 20MW grid-powered green hydrogen plant in the UK in February (2024), expected to produce eight tonnes per day and be based in North Tyneside.
