Zoomlion delivers first skid-mounted hydrogen station to Chinese truck project

China’s Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology has delivered its first fully autonomous skid-mounted hydrogen refuelling station to a heavy-duty truck project in Inner Mongolia.

Offering hydrogen displacement of up to 1,000Nm3/h while using less than 0.8kWh/kg, Zoomlion says the refuelling station features its third-generation hydrogen compressor, providing high-pressures and temperatures with oil-free lubrication.

Being skid-mounted, the station will be easier to transport, install and relocate, potentially, overcoming some permitting and construction barriers.

Delivered to China Huadian Corporation’s hydrogen heavy-duty truck project in Inner Mongolia, the station comes as an end-use element of a wider initiative in the region.

According to state-owned China Daily, a 200MW hydrogen production project in the autonomous region’s city of Baotou has been fuelling hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks manufactured by Beiben Trucks Group since late last year.

With 15 trucks initially put on the roads, the truck firm is expected to deliver a total of 160 for use in coal transportation at thermal power plants, intending to expand the order to 300 trucks.

It comes as the Chinese state pushes on with its ambitious hydrogen agenda. With the goal of putting 50,000 fuel cell vehicles on its roads by 2025, the People’s Republic has been building refuelling infrastructure at a significant rate.

The Hydrogen Council estimated last year that China boasts over 300 refuelling stations – more than all European and Middle Eastern countries combined.
