Yara Clean Ammonia and BASF have announced a joint study to develop and construct a low-carbon blue ammonia production facility on the Gulf Coast region, the US.
The facility will also incorporate a carbon capture system, with the two companies looking into the feasibility of a plant with a total capacity of 1.2 to 1.4 million tonnes per year to serve the global demand for ammonia. The study is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2023.
The facility is expected to generate approximately 95% of the carbon dioxide from the production process and is aimed to be captured and permanently stored in the ground allowing Yara to serve its customers with clean ammonia with a reduce carbon footprint.
