thyssenkrupp Steel, a Duisburg-based steel producer, has launched a series of tests that inject hydrogen into its steelmaking process.
The first of their kind tests were initiated in the presence of NRW economics and digital minister Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart and aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions which are produced during the steelmaking process.
“Today is a ground-breaking day for the steel industry,” said Premal Desai, Chairman of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe.
“Steel production will play an important part in reaching our climate targets because the potential for reducing emissions is huge. That’s why we’re working flat out to drive the transition to hydrogen technology.”
