Woodside Energy has invested $40m in a seven-year research partnership with Monash University to explore the possibilities of using hydrogen as a source of energy to support Australia’s low-carbon energy transition.
As part of the partnership, Australia’s largest independent oil and gas company will construct a $16.5m state-of-the-art ‘living laboratory’ in the Monash Technology Precinct which houses Australia’s largest concentration of research institutions and leading engineering companies.
Due for completion in early 2020, the building will be one of the world’s most efficient and innovative teaching facilities.
Through the partnership, Monash and Woodside will explore the possibilities of hydrogen and carbon abatement, with a focus on materials, electro-chemical and thermal chemical research.
