After criticising a lack of green hydrogen supply in Europe, ArcelorMittal could finally secure the clean energy carrier to decarbonise some of its steel production.
German industrial gas firm Westfalen Group has said its first electrolyser is being built in northeast France which will supply the steel major’s plant in Florange.
Having been a supplier of grey hydrogen to ArcelorMittal since 2010, Westfalen France says it will replace the gas with electrolytic hydrogen from 2026 under a supply contract that will run into the 2040s.
