Accurate data on current hydrogen emissions needs to be established, an Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) scientist has told H2 View.
Tianyi Sun, lead author of the EDF study that revealed current frameworks to assess the climate impacts of hydrogen are “vulnerable to broad miscalculation,” has said that while hydrogen emissions from purging and venting are predictable, leaks thus far have been difficult to quantify.
“We really don’t know how much hydrogen is emitted,” Sun told H2 View. “The first step in addressing hydrogen emissions is to take an inventory of all the possible emissions and understand where they’re coming from.”
