Wärtsilä has launched the “world’s first” 100% hydrogen-ready engine power plant, based on its 31 engine platform.
The plant is expected to run on natural gas and 25% hydrogen blends and consume 43 tonnes of hydrogen in the electricity sector annually by 2030, rising to 88 tonnes in 2050.
The Wärtsilä 31 engine platform is said to be the “most efficient in the world,” can synchronise with the grid within 30 seconds from start command, ensures security through fuel flexibility and offers unparalleled load following capabilities and high load efficiency.
