Walmart Chile has inaugurated the “first” industrial green hydrogen plant in Latin America at its Quilicura distribution centre alongside project developer Engie as it looks to transition logistics fleet to 100% green hydrogen.
The near $15m project will allow Walmart to initially replace the lead-acid batteries in 200 forklift trucks with hydrogen fuel cell powertrains, which it says will avoid the generation of 250 tonnes of toxic waste per year.
