Volvo launches PhD scholarship to advance hydrogen ICE research

Volvo Group has revealed it’s initiating PhD scholarships dedicated to hydrogen combustion engine technology.

To advance the company’s hydrogen research, two PhD students will be chosen to conduct their research at Chalmers University of Technology and at Lund University, both in Sweden, while also being employed by the Volvo Group.

To reach Net Zero by 2040, Volvo is exploring a range of the latest propulsion technologies, including hydrogen for combustion engines and fuel cells.

The Volvo Internal Combustion Engine (VICE) scholarship is expected to secure continued competence of internal combustion engine (ICE) technology due to the reduced public funding for academic research in this field, leading to a reduced interest among students.
