Vietnam aims to produce 100,000-500,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year by 2030 under recently approved plans.
The country’s hydrogen energy development strategy hopes to set Vietnam on course to produce 10-20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2050, utilising both renewable energy and carbon capture.
Unveiled in Hanoi on Thursday (February 22), the ambitious hydrogen output is expected to displace some natural gas and coal used in power plants by 2030, with views for the energy carrier to be used for transport, fertiliser, steel and cement.
