Verdagy to deliver 320MW of electrolyser capacity for SAF and e-methanol production

Verdagy has agreed to provide over 320MW of its eDynamic alkaline electrolysers to produce green hydrogen in a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and e-methanol biorefinery.

The electrolyser manufacturer has entered into a strategic partnership with Petron Scientech, a company with more than 35 years of experience in renewable sustainable chemical process technologies.

The New Jersey, US-based company also has offices in Portugal and India and plans to set up R&D hubs in the UAE and Japan. Petron wants to scale its production capacities to multiple gigawatts, however, it has not publicly disclosed how many live plants it has to date.

The press statement released by Verdagy has not revealed when or where the electrolyser modules will be sent.

“Petron is developing several sustainability-focused, low carbon intensity score, biorefineries and is engaged with leading airlines for offtake of SAF made using Petron’s ethanol and bio-ethylene technologies and also engaged with shipping companies on offtake of e-methanol, produced using green hydrogen,” explained Yogi Sarin, Petron’s CEO.

“We were seeking a green hydrogen solution partner that integrates well with our biorefineries, has leading performance, and the technology expertise to scale to multiple GWs in a capital efficient manner,” the CEO added.

“Verdagy fits the bill perfectly and we look forward to collaborating with the company on several projects globally.”

Verdagy’s CEO, Marty Neese, claimed that the firm’s mission is to provide green hydrogen at “fossil parity costs, without subsidies, within five years,” to essentially “drive mass adoption and lower carbon emissions.”

Neese continued, “Our electrolysers pair seamlessly in real-time with renewable intermittent energy sources, and our industry-leading efficiency and operating range maximise asset utilisation, leading to the lowest levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH) in the world today.”

Last October, Verdagy opened its electrolyser manufacturing facility in Silicon Valley, California, with production set to begin this quarter (2025).
