Donald Trump will be sworn in as US President today (January 20), signalling his second term as President. Regional and global tariffs
On November 25, President-elect Trump pronounced via social media that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on all products imported into the US from Canada and Mexico, among other countries, as one of his first executive orders.
But that doesn’t mean he will. Trade flows and agreements are a lot harder to draft than tweets, and many tariff-making powers under US law involve procedural steps that could not happen overnight. Each agreement can be complex.
