After days of speculation, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has named seven regional clean hydrogen hubs (H2Hubs) that will receive part of $7bn of funding.
Hoped to create a network of hydrogen producers, consumers and local connective infrastructure, $7bn of funding was made available for six to 10 hubs from the DOE’s $8bn Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs programme.
ARCH2, ARCHES, HyVelocity, Heartland, MACH2, MachH2, and PNWH2, have been named as the successful hubs that will be receive between $400m and $1.25bn of federal funds.
Anticipated to produce a collective three million tonnes of hydrogen annually, the DOE says the hubs will reach almost of third of the 2030 US production target and will reduce 25 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from end-uses each year.
