US DOE offers $19m of funding for hydrogen tech to convert waste into clean energy

The US Department for Energy (DOE) is offering $19m of funding for research to develop technology that will see hydrogen convert waste into clean energy.

Coming from the DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), the funding will focus on using hydrogen systems to convert waste materials – such as biomass, plastic, general household waste and more – into clean energy.

Hoped to reduce the volume of waste sent to US landfill sites, the funding opportunity is looking for applications in three areas of interest:
