Alongside its striking mountains, beautiful beaches and warm hospitality, Oman has another attribute in the form of naturally occurring hydrogen.
These processes are so clearly at work in the Samail ophiolite in the Sultanate that with the naked eye, you can see hydrogen bubbling up out of springs of water not far from the capital city, Muscat (bottom of photo).
Participants of the US-Oman Technical Workshop on Geologic Hydrogen witnessed the phenomenon themselves during a field visit on September 25.
