The Uruguayan Roadmap for Green Hydrogen and Derivatives envisages the installation of approximately 18GW of renewable energy capacity and 9GW of electrolysers by 2040.
First revealed last year by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), the roadmap’s first phase is focused on production up to 2025. Initially, synthetic fuels and green fertilisers will be promoted to boost domestic markets, representing a $2.1bn annual revenue opportunity.
The second phase, expected for 2026-2030, will ensure the scaling up of the domestic market in demand and production, along with the first export projects beginning operation. The third phase, scheduled for 2030-2040, will see large-scale production of hydrogen, ammonia, green fuels, etc, for export.
