Universal Hydrogen has begun the next phase of its hydrogen-powered flight test campaign for regional aircraft at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California, the US.
The kick-off flight lasted around 20 minutes and reached 5,000 feet before returning for several passes over the airport with the hydrogen powertrain at full power throughout the flight to measure the noise level reduction fuel cell propulsion offers.
The flight signified to start of a two-year test campaign optimising hydrogen-powered aviation, which will eventually see the introduction of a new custom-developed, aviation-grade turbo compressor that will allow flights up to 25,000 feet. Following this, the test programme will introduce Universal Hydrogen’s patented modular liquid hydrogen fuel storage system.
