Universal Hydrogen and Air Nostrum have joined forces to develop hydrogen-powered turboprops to help reduce aviation’s contribution to global carbon emissions.
Having signed a letter of intent (LOI) on Wednesday (July 15), the duo said that Air Nostrum will purchase 11 of Universal Hydrogen’s turboprop conversion kits for use across its existing and future fleet.
Each of the kits includes a hydrogen fuel cell and electric motor that replaces the aircraft’s existing turboprop engine. They are also compatible with Universal Hydrogen’s modular hydrogen capsule technology that allows for the delivery of hydrogen to any airport without purpose-built infrastructure.
