Using hydrogen in overseas defence applications could reduce the military’s exposure to contested logistics while complimenting operational output, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has told H2 View.
Under the MOD’s Defence Operational Energy Strategy, the UK is exploring which alternative fuels could maintain or even improve operational effectiveness.
With remote energy needs currently met by diesel, Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Richard Griffiths, Project Lead for the MOD’s Strategic Command, explained such dependency establishes energy supply chains that could become vulnerable during overseas missions.
