One year after the UK Government announced £2bn ($2.5bn) in funding for 11 green hydrogen projects, delays in securing critical agreements have left the industry in limbo, threatening supply chain growth and jeopardising the country’s hydrogen ambitions.
December 14 marks the 12-month anniversary of when the UK Government named the 11 green hydrogen projects that would enter negotiations for a share of £2bn in revenue support under its first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1).
“HAR1 puts the UK in a leading position internationally,” the government said in December 2023. “This represents the largest number of commercial-scale green hydrogen production projects announced at once anywhere in Europe.”
