The UK could compete with low-cost hydrogen producing regions by exporting hydrogen to Europe via pipelines, according to Molly Illiffe, Global Head of Hydrogen at Baringa.
Speaking at the Hydrogen UK Annual Conference in Birmingham, Illiffe told delegates that while future hydrogen demand centres will mirror current fossil fuel consumers, the producing regions are expected to be “much more diverse.”
With regions such as Africa, Australia and South America anticipated to be low-cost producers of renewable hydrogen, due to abundant renewable resources, they could begin to export to European demand centres.
