UK Govt strikes land deal with Crown Estate for clean energy developments

The UK Government plans to use land and seabed owned by the Royal Family to build up to 30GW of offshore wind developments to support its clean energy and hydrogen production plans.

Under an unusual partnership between the new state-owned Great British Energy (GBE) and The Crown Estate, the deal means land and property owned by the monarchy’s property business will leased for windfarm developments.

The government claims the deal could use up to £60bn of private investment to build some 30GW of wind capacity, which it says is enough to power almost 20 million homes.
