UK researchers and organisations will be able to participate in Horizon Europe, on par with EU Member States, and gain access to funding from January 1 2024.
The move will reinforce the opportunity for UK firms to be part of a worldwide network of researchers and innovators aimed at tackling global challenges in climate, energy, mobility, digital and industry.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said, “The EU and UK are key strategic partners and allies, and today’s agreement proves that point. We will continue to be at the forefront of global science and research.”
The agreement also includes access to Copernicus, the EU’s earth observation programme. Overall, it is estimated that the UK will contribute almost €2.6bn per year on average for its participation.
