Toyota Gazoo Racing has today (March 15) announced the withdrawal of its liquid hydrogen-powered Corolla from the Japanese Super Taikyu Series due to a fire during private tests.
The company said that during a private test run at the Fuji International Speedway on March 8, a fire occurred due to a hydrogen leak from a gaseous hydrogen pipe in the engine compartment, meaning the team could not recover the vehicle in time to race.
The GR Corolla H2 Concept was due to participate in the ENEOS Super Taikyu Series Round 1 in Suzuka on March 18 and 19. Toyota has said it plans to participate with its gasoline-powered ORC Rookie GR Yaris instead.
