Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, under a new deal with AMRC Cymru, is looking to optimise hydrogen fuel cell assembly to accelerate the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the transport sector.
Under the new plans, Toyota will use the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Cymru’s Hydrogen Electric Propulsion System (HEPS) assembly testbed to assemble its fuel cells in a 12 month project.
Coming as part of the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult, and receiving funding from the Welsh Government’s Low Carbon Automotive Transformation Fund, the project is hoped to de-risk the assembly and production scale up of hydrogen fuel cells for the transport industry.
