Toyota deployed a stationary fuel cell system to power the iconic Marvel Stadium sign and coaches’ box, in Melbourne, Australia, during an Australian Football League (AFL) clash in late July (2022), further proving the case for hydrogen-fuelled power generation.
Using the same Toyota-designed fuel cell as seen in its Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), the demonstration generated electricity throughout the Round 19 match of the AFL, between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne Demons.
Coming in the form of the EODev GENH2 unit, previously used to power a lighting system on the shoot of Netflix series last year (2021), Toyota says only 10-15% of the unit’s capacity was required, providing a total of 105kW per hour across the seven-hour period.
