Toyota and Hyundai to explore hydrogen-powered vehicle collaboration

Toyota Motor Corporation and Hyundai Motor Group will explore opportunities for hydrogen-powered vehicle collaboration, according to reports.

H2 View understands that the two automakers will discuss potential collaboration on the development and production of hydrogen-powered vehicles suitable for key markets.

Toyota’s Chairman, Akio Toyoda, is expected to travel to Seoul, the Republic of Korea in October to meet with Hyundai representatives.

Both organisations have been active within the hydrogen industry, with Toyota leading transportation at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Just last week (August 28), a Hyundai fuel cell truck, equipped with an Allison Transmission solution, delivered over 100,000 packages for GLS Germany.

The heavy-duty XCIENT truck featured a 350kW electric motor, coupled with an Allison 400 Series fully automatic transmission, powered by a 180kW hydrogen fuel cell system.

In July (2024), Toyota’s European trading arm formed a joint venture (JV) with industrial gas major Messer to produce and supply green hydrogen for its fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in Europe.

Between Toyota Tsusho Europe (TTESA) and Messer Group, the SympH2ony JV is expected to offer services required for “reliable operation – tailored to the individual needs of the customer.”
