TotalEnergies and Tree Energy Solutions (TES) are partnering to study and develop a large-scale renewable hydrogen and carbon dioxide (CO2)-based e-natural gas (e-NG) production unit in the US.
Expected to produce between 100,000 and 200,000 tonnes of the synthetic gas per year, the project will see 1GW of electrolysis powered by 2GW of wind and solar supplied by TotalEnergies used to produce hydrogen which will be combined with biogenic CO2 to obtain e-NG.
The partners say the e-NG produced from the project will be able to be transported or liquefied and sold like natural gas using existing infrastructure, with customers able to use it without any adaption to their facilities.
