Tomorrow’s electrolysers: Integrating fossil-free steel into heat exchangers

As we move into the future, the world is looking towards hydrogen production to solve the ever-growing energy demands without further damage to the climate. But even hydrogen production has a footprint that needs to be reduced, forcing OEMs to be equipped with more sustainable components.

With help from various partners, Alfa Laval aims to fill that gap. That’s how the company came up with Concept Zero: the world’s first heat exchanger made using fossil-free steel and recycled materials. 

Harnessing the heat exchanger

Hydrogen could stand for more than 20% of the world’s energy market by 2050. But, to reach the volumes set out in government strategies, green hydrogen production will generate a challenging amount of excess heat.
