TECO 2030 begins second maritime-based EU Horizon project

TECO 2030 and its 13 partners have begun its second €2.3m ($2.5m) EU Horizon project, the Zero Emission Adriatic Ship (ZEAS).

The grant reserved for TECO 2030 will ensure the delivery of 1.2MW of fuel cells for vessel propulsion, through a full-scale demonstration of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered system suitable for maritime applications.

The project will see the design and construction of a ship – tailored for operation in the Adriatic Sea’s marine ecosystem – the development of comprehensive hydrogen distribution, storage, and bunkering solutions, and rigorous testing through sea trials to comply with certification standards.

TECO 2030 will lead the project with its 13 partners, including Lurssen Design Centre Kvarner, the Maritime Centre of Excellence, the University of Rijeka – Maritime Faculty, DNV Greece, and Hycenta research, among others. The organisations will receive €2.3m of the overall EU Horizon grant, worth €13.5m ($14.7m).
