TotalEnergies has agreed to collaborate on the development of a large green hydrogen project, set to potentially produce one million tonnes of hydrogen per year in Tunisia.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with the Republic of Tunisia to form TE H2 – a joint venture (JV) between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe, alongside Verbund. During its initial phase, “H2 Notos” will produce 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
The initiative will produce hydrogen via electrolysers powered by large onshore wind and solar projects, and it will be supplied with desalinated sea water. H2 Notos will export hydrogen using pipelines to the European market, utilising the SoutH2 Corridor which connects North Africa to Italy, Austria and Germany and is expected to be commissioned by around 2030.
