Sweden-based company, Vattenfall, announced on Thursday (May 19), it had received £9.3m ($11.6m) of UK Government funding, to develop the Hydrogen Turbine 1 (HT1) project.
The pilot project, which could be operational by 2025, plans to produce hydrogen using offshore wind turbines, located at Vattenfall’s Offshore Wind Farm, in Aberdeen Bay, Scotland.
Vattenfall has claimed the project will have an output of 8MW, which can produce enough hydrogen each day to ‘power a hydrogen bus to travel 24,000km (14,912 miles).’ Hydrogen from HT1 will be taken to Aberdeen Harbour by pipeline.
