Sungrow’s alkaline electrolyser starts operation at Chinese chemical park

Sungrow Hydrogen has begun operating its alkaline electrolyser at the Shanxi Yulin Coal Chemical Industry base in China.

Sungrow’s electrolyser can produce 1,200 metres of hydrogen per hour (Nm3/h) at a purity of up to 99.999%, which marked a “significant step of the coal, chemical and new energy coupling technology R&D project.”

The Chinese electrolyser manufacturer’s offering included the alkaline electrolyser, PWM hydrogen production power supply, gas-liquid separation equipment, hydrogen purification equipment, an intelligent hydrogen management system and other supporting equipment.

In June (2024), Sungrow won a contract to supply its electrolysers to another large-scale integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol project in China.

Awarded by China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC), the contract will ensure Sungrow delivers its technology to support the production of 110,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, 600,000 tonnes of ammonia and 60,000 tonnes of methanol annually.

Both projects come after the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts electrolyser investments in China could increase by 140% throughout 2024, accounting for 40% of the $5bn of global investments.
