Sungrow wins electrolyser supply bid for $4bn Chinese green hydrogen project

Sungrow Hydrogen has won a bid to supply electrolysers to a large-scale integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol project in China.

Awarded by China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) for its $4bn Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park in Jilin, China, the Sungrow systems will support the production of 110,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, 600,000 tonnes of ammonia and 60,000 tonnes of methanol annually.

Expected to host 640MW of electrolyser capacity, construction of the project started last September, with funding being secured from the China National Development and Reform Commission’s (NDRC) Green and Low-Carbon Advanced Technology Demonstration Projects.

Sungrow has not disclosed how much of the project’s hydrogen capacity it will be meeting, but the project comes as its third in the Jilin province.

The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has said it will “actively promote” the completion of the project.

It comes after the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted electrolyser investments in China could increase by 140% throughout 2024, accounting for 40% of the $5bn of global investments.

The agency reported more than 20 projects above 100MW with a combined capacity of 6.9GW could be operational in China by 2026.
