Sungrow secures electrolyser deal for Oman green ammonia project

Sungrow Hydrogen has agreed to provide electrolysis equipment to produce hydrogen at a 320MW green ammonia project in Oman.

Under a supply agreement with ACME Group, the Chinese electrolyser manufacturer will provide multiple sets of 1000Nm3/hr of alkaline equipment, which they expect to deliver this year.

ACME has stated that the green ammonia project will begin operations in 2026, initially producing up to 300 tonnes per day of the the green hydrogen carrier.

Last January, ACME announced it would deliver up to 100,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia to Yara Clean Ammonia from its Oman facility.

Sungrow’s deal with ACME follows a busy year for the electrolyser OEM, who began operating its alkaline electrolyser at the Shanxi Yulin Coal Chemical Industry base in China in September (2024).

Additionally, they secured a cooperation agreement with Tianying’s green hydrogen, methanol and ammonia project in Jilin, which would see them provide 16 sets of 1000Nm3/hr alkaline systems.

Speaking to H2 View last year, Sungrow’s General Manager, Jason Jin, said he wants Sungrow to expand further in the European market.

“The European green hydrogen market is the biggest in the world. But customers there don’t know what we do under our strategy, although I think if we communicate the future the market will be huge for us,” Jin explained.

“We want to participate in this market and understand the requirements of potential customers in Europe.”
