Sunfire to deliver 50MW electrolysers for Finnish hydrogen-based e-methane plant

Sunfire with deliver 50MW of pressurised alkaline electrolysers for use in a Finnish e-methane project, which will combine green hydrogen and CO2 captured from a waste incineration plant.

The German electrolyser firm announced Ren-Gas selected it to supply its plant in Tampere, Finland, which will produce e-methane to provide around 200GWh of transport fuel as well as 180GWh of district heating.

Currently in the feasibility stage, the project has received an environmental permit.

Set to be responsible for the design, production, testing, delivery, installation supervision and commissioning of the plant, Sunfire will supply five 10MW modules for the site.

“Throughout the selection process, we closely collaborated with Sunfire, whose capabilities and commitment to green hydrogen production are exceptional,” said Saara Kujala, Ren-Gas CEO.

Nils Aldag, CEO of Sunfire, added, “Our advanced solution is designed to deliver efficient and reliable hydrogen production at scale, ensuring that Ren-Gas meets its ambitious sustainability targets.”

The selection comes as another step into the Finnish market for Sunfire. In February the firm had a 20MW plant installed for P2X Solutions which will supply hydrogen for xylitol production.

In March, the firm claimed it had become one of the “best-capitalised electrolyser manufacturers in the industry,” after securing €500m ($528m) in grants and new investments.
