Finland’s Gasgrid has selected StreamTec Solutions (STS) as its Owners Engineering partner to support the development of hydrogen transmission infrastructure projects in the Baltic Sea.
Under a four-year Framework contract for Owners Engineering Services, the project will focus on two main projects: The Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) and the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC).
BHC is exploring the construction of an offshore hydrogen pipeline connecting Finland, Sweden and central Europe, whilst the NBHC aims to develop hydrogen infrastructure from Finland to Germany through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland by 2030.

Six gas transmission operators (TSOs), including Finland’s Gasgrid, completed the pre-feasibility study of the 2,500km NBHC in September, which is expected to transport up to 2.7 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2040.
Additionally, Gasgrid has the option to extend the framework contract with STS by an additional four years.
“The hydrogen economy will improve security of supply and safety in the Baltic Sea region and Europe as a whole, bring much-needed flexibility to the energy system and create new investments and jobs,” explained Esa Hallivuori, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Projects Gasgrid.
Georg Nowack, Project Manager at STS, added that the contract highlights the firm’s “expertise in delivering innovative projects in the field of hydrogen and offshore construction.”
