Swiss-based Stadler has signed framework agreements for the delivery of 25 hydrogen-powered trains with two Italian railway operators.
Under the agreements, Azienda Regionale Sarda Transporti (ARST) will receive 10 hydrogen trains for operation in Sardinia, while Ferrovie della Calabria (FdC) in Calabria will be supplied with 15.
According to Stadler, these agreements will make it the first to deliver narrow-gauge trains with hydrogen propulsion systems, coming as the company’s inaugural Europe hydrogen vehicle deliveries.
