Finnish steelmaker SSAB has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to decarbonise all of its deliveries to Scania’s heavy-duty vehicles in 2030, using hydrogen-based steel production technology.
Coming as the vehicle giant’s main steel supplier, the new deal hopes to deliver “radically lowered” emissions, while acting as early movers in reducing the carbon footprint of hard-to-abate sectors.
SSAB’s Fossil-free™ steel is expected to ramp up from smaller deliveries in 2026, until 100% of its deliveries to Scania are made up of its decarbonised steel products.
