In addition to fierce discussion around the future of hydrogen in North America, H2 View’s North America Hydrogen Summit on July 14-15, 2022, also played to host to quite a remarkable guest. 17-year-old, Sofia Kimuyu from New York, US, joined the H2 View team in San Francisco, California, to add to her wealth of knowledge about hydrogen and energy more broadly.
In her earliest years, she grew up in Mozambique and Kenya while her mother, Lisa Kurbiel, worked for the United Nations, where she most recently took up the role as Director of the Joint Sustainable Develop Goals (SDG) Secretariat. Struck by the extensive energy poverty facing local communities that she saw during her time in Mozambique and Kenya, her passion for energy was ignited.
Speaking to H2 View, Kimuyu, said, “I could see girls dropping out of school because they didn’t have enough light to do their homework, women walking for hours and carrying huge bundles of firewood on their head to cook [with]. So, from a very early age, I had a fascination with energy.
