A newly formed alliance is looking to support the development of a hydrogen-powered railway sector across Spain to help drive competitiveness in the clean transportation market – and they want to test a new locomotive as soon as April this year (2022).
Iberdrola and Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) group on Wednesday (Feb 2) said they have inked a new agreement to replace fossil fuel trains with hydrogen alternatives without any major modifications.
To do this, the partnership is looking to develop a renewable hydrogen value chain, with high levels of safety, technology and competitiveness, to reinvent traditional locomotives in the European countries.
