Spain targets 74% industrial green hydrogen by 2030 and trebles electrolyser goals

Spain plans to meet 74% of industrial hydrogen demand with green hydrogen by 2030, as it trebles its installed electrolyser capacity goals to 12GW.

The government’s National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2023-2030 (PNIEC) increases the 4GW electrolysis target set in 2020 and goes beyond the 11GW ambition mentioned in the draft PNIEC last year.

It comes well ahead of EU-wide goals of meeting 42% of industrial hydrogen demand with green, which was agreed last year with the adoption of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
